Conditions We Treat
Back Pain
Back pain is one of the most common reasons people visit our clinic, but the source isn’t always where it hurts. Pain in the hips, glutes, or upper back can sometimes begin in the spine or be caused by irritated nerves, tight muscles, or repetitive stress. Dr. James Hogan spends time identifying what’s actually driving your symptoms instead of treating every case the same way.
Your care may include chiropractic adjustments, stretching, soft tissue therapy, or other treatments that improve movement and reduce stress on the affected area. The goal is to help you move better and keep the problem from returning.
Neck Pain
Many individuals have had neck pain for several months before they even start to seek treatment for their pain. Over time, the pain may come after the stiffness and extend down the arm or fingers due to irritated nerves.
Our primary concern is to soothe the irritated tissues and allow them to resume their natural movements. The type of treatment we may use depends on the severity of your condition and may include chiropractic treatments, manual therapy, stretching, decompression therapy, or traction therapy.
Sciatica
Most commonly, sciatica begins with lower back pain and then extends from the buttocks to the leg. In addition, people may experience numbness or tingling and even weakness, making day-to-day tasks harder.
Sciatica is caused by various factors; therefore, the first thing we do is to figure out what irritates your sciatic nerve: it can be due to a herniated disc, joint dysfunction, or any other reason. Treatment methods may include spinal manipulation, flexion-distraction therapy, decompression, and exercises that improve joint mobility while reducing nerve irritation.
Herniated Disc
Not everyone with a herniated disc experiences acute back pain. For most patients, pain, numbness, or tingling that goes down their arms or legs, caused by nerve irritation from a herniated disc, is the first sign that they have this problem. Your recovery will depend on the extent of the damage, so we assess your condition and recommend appropriate treatment options. While some patients require only chiropractic adjustments, others might be better off with a combination of spinal decompression and SoftWave therapy.
Headaches and Migraines
Headaches don’t always begin in your head. The cause of headaches can be traced to poor movement of the upper part of the neck or muscle tension that compresses the nerves in the area. We assess the movement of your neck, determine where the tension lies, and consider the causes of your headaches.
Treatment involves restoring proper movement in the upper cervical region through spinal adjustments and other therapies. As your neck becomes more mobile, you will find that your headaches diminish.
Whiplash
Whiplash is a common injury after a car accident, caused by the neck moving rapidly back and forth. While soreness may be the first symptom, the injury can also affect the joints, muscles, tendons, and ligaments that support your neck. At Active Body Chiropractic, our goal is to restore proper joint movement early, so your body heals in the correct position rather than developing long-term movement problems.
Gentle chiropractic care, soft tissue treatment, and rehabilitation exercises are selected based on your condition to help improve mobility and reduce the risk of ongoing stiffness or recurring discomfort.
Vertigo
Not every case of dizziness comes from the inner ear. Sometimes, restricted movement in the upper neck or irritation around the cervical joints can contribute to balance problems and feelings of unsteadiness. We begin by understanding your symptoms and determining whether they may be related to your neck or if another evaluation is needed.
Treatment focuses on improving neck mobility, reducing muscle tension, and restoring normal joint function. By addressing the underlying source instead of just the symptom, many patients experience better movement and improved day-to-day comfort.
Knee Pain
Knee pain can also develop from tendon irritation, ligament strain, inflammation, or changes within the joint itself. It can also be caused by degenerative diseases like arthritis. Dr. James Hogan takes time to identify what’s actually causing your symptoms. Depending on your condition, treatment may include chiropractic care and SoftWave therapy to encourage tissue healing and improve joint function.
Many patients with long-standing knee pain begin noticing meaningful improvements within a structured treatment plan, helping them return to walking, exercising, and daily activities more comfortably.
Shoulder Pain
Shoulder pain can make simple tasks like reaching overhead, lifting, or getting dressed uncomfortable. In many cases, the problem isn’t limited to the shoulder itself. Tight muscles, repetitive movements, or irritation from the neck can all affect how the shoulder moves. We evaluate the entire area to understand what’s contributing to your symptoms before creating a treatment plan. Depending on your needs, care may include chiropractic adjustments, manual therapy, SoftWave therapy, and exercises that improve flexibility and restore healthy movement so you can use your shoulder with greater confidence.
Work Injury
Many work injuries don’t happen from a single accident. They often develop gradually through repetitive lifting, prolonged sitting, awkward postures, or performing the same movements every day. Over time, these repeated stresses can affect your muscles, joints, and nerves. We begin by identifying the source of the problem rather than simply treating where it hurts.
Dr. Hogan incorporates chiropractic adjustments, soft tissue therapy, stretching, and rehabilitation exercises into your care plan to improve movement and reduce ongoing strain. He will also discuss practical ways to move more efficiently at work to help prevent the problem from returning.
Scoliosis
Every case of scoliosis is different. Some people have a mild spinal curve with very few symptoms, while others experience muscle tightness, stiffness, or nerve irritation as the curve becomes more pronounced. Because no two spines are the same, your treatment plan is based on the severity of the curve, your mobility, overall health, and how the condition affects your daily life.
At Active Body Chiropractic, our goal is to improve movement, reduce stress on the surrounding muscles and joints, and help you stay active by supporting the way your body functions rather than focusing only on the curve itself.
Arm & Leg Pain
Pain that travels into your arm or leg often points to an irritated nerve rather than a problem in the limb itself. A pinched nerve in the neck can send symptoms into the shoulder, arm, or fingers, while irritation in the lower back may cause pain, numbness, or tingling through the hip, leg, or foot.
We focus on identifying where the nerve is being affected so treatment addresses the source instead of just the symptoms. Improving joint movement, reducing muscle tension, and restoring normal function can help you move more comfortably and regain confidence in everyday activities.
Disc Injury
Pressure from a disc injury can affect the surrounding nerves, resulting in pain that affects the entire body outside the spine, including the arms and legs. Symptoms can arise after carrying a heavy load or as a result of repetitive stress to the spine. Dr. Hogan will discuss your symptoms before suggesting treatment and check if further diagnostic tests are necessary.
Based on the level of the damage, treatment may involve chiropractic adjustments, spinal decompression, and SoftWave treatment to reduce nerve pressure and support your body’s healing process.
Neuropathy and Numbness
Numbness, tingling, and a burning sensation usually indicate irritation or compression of the nerve at some point along the nerve pathway. The symptoms may start from your neck or lower back and then travel down into your arms, hands, legs, or feet. Dr. Hogan will first conduct a detailed clinical evaluation. He will then develop a plan to ease pressure around the nerve and improve blood flow.
It is not just important to look where the symptoms are occurring but rather to look at the spine, joints, and other tissues that may be causing irritation of the nerve. Chiropractic treatment can help you move better, alleviate nerve irritation, and get you back to your daily activities comfortably.
